THANKSGIVING WEEKEND

November 26 – 28th, 2021

Small-town Holiday charm for the whole family!

Every year, on Thanksgiving Weekend, the community of Princeton transforms into a Wintery Wonderland during its long-running “Christmas in Princeton Thanksgiving Weekend” Celebration. The shops are decked, the streets twinkle, and merriment is shared by all.  This family-friendly festivity includes 3 days of shopping, the Lights on Water Street Parade, a tree lighting, four craft fairs throughout the town, breakfast with Santa, hot chocolate, s’ mores & more! 
Schedule of Events:
Friday, November 26

All Day: Festive shopping and dining at Princeton’s local shops and restaurants
9:00 am – 4:00 pm: Hunting Studio Glass Open House, live glass blowing demos,  art, and gifts, W5257 Oak Tree Ln.
4:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Holiday crafts, snacks, and a movie for kids– free at the Princeton Library (open until 7pm).
6:00 pm – until supplies gone: Annual Children’s book Christmas giveaway at the Princeton Library.
1:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Festival of Trees, 70 foot miniature village, & Bake Sale at Unity Hall in City Park
3:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Pictures with Santa at the Historical Society, 630 W. Water St.
4:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Cookie Decorating at Detjen’s Piggly Wiggly
6:00 pm: “Lights on Water Street” Electrical Parade. Theme: Favorite Christmas Song
6:30 pm: Tree Lighting, caroling, complimentary hot chocolate & cookies, City Parking Lot

Saturday, November 27
All Day: Shop Small Business Saturday at Princeton’s local shops and restaurants
8:00 am – 3:00 pm: Festival of Trees, 70 foot miniature village, & Bake Sale at Unity Hall in City Park
9:00 am – 11:00 am: Breakfast with Santa, Aunt Judy’s Café
9:00 am – 3:00 pm: Holiday Bounty Craft Fair, Princeton High School
9:00 am – 3:00 pm: Craft Fairs throughout the community
9:00 am – 4:00 pm: Hunting Studio Glass Open House, live glass blowing demos, art, and gifts, W5257 Oak Tree Ln.
Sunday, November 28

Christmas in Princeton Float and Decorating Contests

This year’s theme: Christmas Around the World: A Look Back at Our Heritage

Join the festivities!  Help make our city “jolly and bright” and WIN BIG!
Businesses and floats are asked to follow the theme, but residents don’t have to.

Business Decorating Prizes
1st place: 1 free year of Chamber dues ($150 value)
2nd place: 1/2 year
3rd place: $25 Chamber Bucks

Residential Decorating Prizes

Lights on Water Street Electrical Holiday Parade

Friday Nov. 26th at 6 PM
Line up starts at the National Exchange Bank on Water St.
Tree Lighting, caroling, and complimentary hot chocolate & cookies immediately follow the parade in the Princeton City Parking Lot.

 

 More About the Theme

Many countries and cultures celebration Christmas. Take a look back at your heritage and create your theme, or pick a nationality that you find interesting and want to learn more about. Its up to you!

The Princeton Public Library will decorating for “Jolabokaflod,”  Iceland’s “Christmas Book Flood” tradition. Each year on Christmas Eve, Icelandic friends and family traditionally give each other books. They then spend the evening drinking hot cocoa and reading.

The Princeton Historical Society will be decorating with antique glass ornaments. Glass Christmas ornaments originated in Germany in the late 1800s, and until the 1920s, most ornaments sold throughout the world were made there. German culture influenced their designs, which included fruit, nuts, birds, and of course the Christmas Pickle.
